Alianza Flamenca Teachers

Cristina Argyri

Cristina Argyri

Artistic Director

I returned to Australia in February 1996 after more than twelve years overseas extensively studying and performing Spanish and Flamenco dance in Europe. I would like to pass on my knowledge to fellow lovers of Spanish and Flamenco dance. My dance background was in classical ballet, tap, modern and contemporary. I was introduced to Flamenco by Antonio Vargas in Australia and furthered my training and experience in this artform in Europe.

While in Greece, I was a member of the Arroyo Dance Club performing during the Cultural Festival in the summers of 1992 -1995 in various theatres. My last performance with the group was at the VEAKIO Theatre, Piraeus, 1995, where we performed Lorca's famous "Blood Wedding", before I left for extensive study in Madrid and Seville in Spain.

I have been fortunate enough to have studied with the famous La Tati, Carmen Maya, Magdalena and Manolette in Madrid; and attended the Manolo Marin Acadamy of Flamenca and Dance in Seville and completed several intensive workshops with Juana Amaya, Maria Paiges and Antonio Canales in Seville.

I have obtained the qualification of Instructor De Baile I Spanish Dance Society and I am a qualified Teacher of Dance in the Alianza Syllabus which I am currently teaching in my studio, Pasion Flamenco Dance Studio, Rockdale. I am also a member of the Federation of Teachers of Dance and have completed all copyright requirements in Australia.

I opened and operate my own studio, Pasion Flamenca Dance Studio wherein the first Flamenco assessments were held in 1997 making history in Australia with twenty-five students receiving diplomas in the the first course of the Alianza Flamenca syllabus.

The Alianza Syllabus consists of a progressive level structure, which commences with a beginners' level in Curso Uno through to advanced beginner levels (Curso Dos - Tres) and then on to teacher levels and advanced courses. As this syllabus is relatively new, it incorporates modern styles of flamenco that are current in Spain and is very powerful and challenging. It is currently taught in four studios in Sydney.

The newly formed Pasion Flamenco Dance group currently perform for many charity venues and festivals in Sydney.
